Hey Friday! Thanks for taking the time to chat with Breaking Stereotypes Online and I am delighted to feature you on our website. For our readers who don't know, tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi! My name is Friday and I am an independent singer/songwriter/guitarist. Writing is my largest passion, alongside playing shows and spending time in the studio making new music!
I read in your social media bio that you started playing piano and guitar and also had hundreds of songs written in a notebook. What made you start playing and writing?
Writing became an intense love of mine only at age thirteen, when I got my first guitar that same year and taught myself how to play, so that I could start writing songs! This was around the time that the movie Camp Rock had first been released, and seeing that was what really inspired me to become a musician.
As a musician myself, I know a thing or two about personal and professional inspirations and I would assume you do as well. Do you have anyone you have looked up to in the past and/or has motivated you to better yourself constantly?
Demi Lovato, Hands down. She is my biggest musical inspiration, ever since Barney. I remember being 5 years old and seeing her on Barney, pointing her out and going, “I want to be like her.” I didn’t know that she would become such an important influence in my life, but she truly has been that. I met her recently, and that day was by far the most amazing day of my life.
Tell us a little about your experience at the Grammy Camp.
My time at the Grammy Camp was the most defining experience of my music career thus far. Through it I met and made some very talented, lifelong friends, learned more about the music industry than I ever had before, and ultimately was propelled into the reality of what my career had the potential to become. I’d recommend it to every young musician that wants to better enhance their perspective on what it takes to make it in this industry.
I know some bands have a variety of topics for their songs. What do you draw inspiration from for your writing?
I find that a lot of my inspiration for writing is drawn from words. Simple words. It’s a bit odd to say, but sometimes I see a word like “manic,” for example, and a song immediately begins to formulate. I often write down inspiring words that I see or hear, and refer to them later for inspiration. It’s how I get some of my best songs.
Considering all things, what does the future hold for you and your career?
Hopefully I’ll be seeing lots of sales from the first EP, and gaining lots of exposure. I’m optimistic about what is to come, for sure.
Are there any big plans for 2017?
I’ll be traveling a lot in 2017, so I’ll take some time to tour and experience life. I’m going to Bonnaroo and Coachella, as well as a few other festivals in Europe and Philadelphia! I plan to move to Los Angeles and continue pursuing my dream there! But truly, who knows what will happen!
Finally, where can the readers of Breaking Stereotypes Online keep up with news and tour stops?
